History
Our President and founder, Helge Theiss-Nyland was born in Norway and graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering. He moved to the United States in 1982 where he was employed by Gayner Engineering of San Francisco. He then spent the next five years in their design department working on major projects including Chevron, U.C. Berkeley Labs and Stanford Hospital.
He founded Bay City Mechanical, Inc. in 1991 in Richmond, California and the company has grown to become a design and build mechanical engineering and contracting company with $75 million in annual revenue and is the sixth largest mechanical contracting company in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The company’s original vision has evolved, to now include Bay City Mechanical Service, a full service organization, providing HVAC service and maintenance programs to commercial enterprises and property management companies. In fulfilling our mission to provide the Bay Area with the most innovative and reliable HVAC solutions, our service and maintenance organization is a vital component to our ongoing growth and success.
Today, Bay City Mechanical Service strives to be the best HVAC service provider in the industry. We have received numerous industry awards and supplier distinctions from our customers.
